Stratford Upon Avon is set in the beautiful rural Warwickshire countryside on the banks of the river Avon.

We recommend taking some time to visit Shakespeares Birthplace, Anne Hathaways Cottage, Mary Ardens Farm, The Old Thatch Tavern, The Museum or hop on an open top bus.

TOP TIPS

Visit Holy Trinity Church

Shakespeare’s resting place is peaceful, historic and free to enter (donations welcome). It’s a short, scenic walk along the river.

Wander the riverside gardens behind the RSC

Most visitors stick to the front of the theatre, but the RSC Gardens behind the building offer peaceful lawns, sculptures and lovely river views. Perfect for a quiet breather.

Step inside the Guild Chapel

Often missed, this small medieval chapel contains rare surviving wall paintings depicting the Doom, the Dance of Death and other pre Reformation imagery. It’s atmospheric, free, and right beside the Guildhall.

Treat yourself at a tearoom

Stratford excels at traditional tearooms. Hathaway Tea Rooms and The Fourteas (with its 1940s theme) are especially good for cakes, scones and a warm break.
