One weekend a year, in September, the seaside town of Sheringham goes back several decades to the 1940s.
Centred around the North Norfolk Railway, The Poppy Line, the station provides a great backdrop for the comings and goings of people all dressed in vintage costumes and with steam trains and heritage buses running all day.
By far the biggest event of its kind in Norfolk. Military and civilian vehicles, music, dancing, ration food, re-enactments and of course an intensive steam hauled train service.
Dress up in the period to really feel like you have been transported back in time. This is one of those events you really shouldnt miss!
Come in uniform or 1940s civilian dress to add to the atmosphere.
The Renactors Parade is open to anyone in 1940s regalia. Anyone wishing to participate in the foot procession should convene at the Lobster pub and line up along Wyndham Street before 4 p.m.
The procession will proceed up the High Street to the Town Clock and up Station Road to the main car park (near the North Norfolk Railway Station).
The 1940s weekend also encompasses the town of Sheringham and Holt with a vast amount of entertainment taking place on the stations of Sheringham, Weybourne and Holt and venues in the towns.
You may decide to catch a Heritage Bus to Holt where the Town celebrates the wartime efforts of allied forces and the remarkable resilience shown by those who dealt with the hardships of life on the Home Front.
Feel the excitement, fear, hope and bravery of the Blitz. Smell the Golden Age of Steam.
