Your holiday begins with a smooth short ferry crossing, setting the tone for a journey filled with gentle travel and spectacular views. We will be staying in the stunning historic town of Boppard.

Boppard is one of the most charming and characterful towns on the Middle Rhine, celebrated for its riverside promenade, half timbered houses, Roman history and sweeping vineyard covered hills. Set within the UNESCO listed Rhine Gorge, it offers a perfect blend of scenery, culture and relaxed German hospitality — making it a favourite stop on our Rhine Valley coach tours.

At the heart of Boppard is its beautiful waterfront, lined with cafés, wine taverns and river boats. Visitors can stroll along the promenade, watch the passing cruise ships or simply enjoy the calm, scenic atmosphere. The historic old town is a delight to explore, with narrow lanes, medieval towers, traditional shops and the impressive Church of St. Severus.

Monday

Today we sail north from Boppard’s elegant riverside promenade, this gentle return cruise to St. Goar showcases some of the most iconic landscapes of the UNESCO listed Middle Rhine. The boat glides between steep vineyard terraces, forested slopes and storybook villages, with panoramic views from both open decks and comfortable indoor lounges.

Along the route you’ll spot Marksburg Castle high above the river, the peaceful hamlet of Hirzenach, and the dramatic bend approaching the legendary Loreley Rock. As St. Goar comes into view, the mighty Rheinfels Castle dominates the skyline, facing the romantic silhouette of Katz Castle across the water.

St. Goar offers time to stretch your legs, browse wine shops and enjoy the relaxed riverside atmosphere before the return sailing. It’s an easy, scenic and wonderfully photogenic cruise — perfect for guests who want to experience the Rhine Gorge at its most beautiful.

Tuesday

We embark on a gentle one hour cruise from Cochem, which offers a perfect introduction to the beauty of the Moselle Valley. Sailing past steep vineyard slopes, half timbered houses and the town’s elegant waterfront, the boat provides superb views of the Reichsburg Castle rising high above the river. The commentary highlights local wine traditions, medieval history and the valley’s unique landscape, while open decks and panoramic lounges make it easy to enjoy the scenery. It’s a calm, photogenic and effortlessly enjoyable way to experience Cochem from the water.

Wednesday

We discover the heart of Moselle wine culture with a warm and welcoming visit to the Anton Hammes Winery, a long established family estate in the village of Alken. Your guided tour offers a fascinating look behind the scenes of traditional winemaking, from the steep vineyard slopes that define the region to the cellars where the family craft their elegant Rieslings and characterful local varieties.

Guests enjoy an informative tasting featuring a selection of the estate’s wines, each introduced with insight into its flavour profile, terroir and production style. The atmosphere is relaxed, personal and genuinely authentic — a chance to meet the people behind the bottles and experience Moselle hospitality at its best.

Thursday

We step inside one of Rüdesheim’s most enchanting attractions with a self guided visit to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet, home to one of Europe’s finest collections of historic automated instruments. Housed in a beautifully restored 15th century building, the museum showcases everything from delicate music boxes and self playing violins to grand orchestrions capable of filling a ballroom with sound.

Your self guided ticket allows you to explore at your own pace, admiring the craftsmanship, engineering and artistry behind these extraordinary machines. Many exhibits come to life with demonstrations, revealing the charm, humour and sheer ingenuity of mechanical music from centuries past.

It’s a captivating, nostalgic and wonderfully unique experience — a highlight of any visit to Rüdesheim.

A wonderfully varied tour filled with river magic, scenic contrasts, and the true charm of Germany’s most beautiful valleys.

Try local Riesling in a traditional Weinstube

Boppard sits in prime wine country. A glass of crisp local Riesling or Spätburgunder in a cosy wine tavern is a must.

Browse Boppard’s small shops

The town has a lovely mix of boutiques, wine shops, bakeries and souvenir stores. It’s a great place to pick up local chocolates, wine, or handcrafted gifts.

Try a slice of traditional German cake

Boppard’s cafés are known for excellent Kuchen. A slice of apple cake, Black Forest gateau or plum tart with a coffee is also a perfect treat.

Try a refreshing Schorle

A Schorle (sparkling water mixed with fruit juice or wine) is a popular local drink. Apple Schorle is ideal for warm days and is widely available in cafés and restaurants.
